Karen is a Primary School Teacher and qualified from The University of Warwick in 2003. Prior to graduation Karen studied at The University of Wolverhampton where she obtained her BSc Hons degree in Health Sciences and Education Studies. Karen currently teaches in a large, inner city Birmingham Primary School where she has been employed since gaining her teaching qualification. She is part of the Middle Management Team and leads on Design and Technology, along with mentoring teaching students and working as part of the Inclusion Team.
Karen has previous experience of Governance, as she also served on the Board of Governors at the same school. Karen was inspired to join the Board of Governors at Nursery Hill Primary School, shortly after completing a part time temporary contract as Year 1 Class Teacher during 2018. During her free time Karen is a keen home cook, has served for 20 years as a leader of the Girl Guide Association in her home town of Tamworth and now lives in Ansley Common along with her partner Tim and their two children.
After leaving Hartshill High School in 1986, Michael worked for several weeks in Whitestone Garden Ornaments making various Gnomes and seats. This wasn't for him! He then started Dunlop Topy Wheel in November 1986 as an inspector and soon moved on to Tool Setting, running a fully automated steel wheel rim production line.
Dunlop Topy was sold to Magneto in 2001, who then closed their order books and all work was moved France. Dunlop finally closed in 2006. Michael then worked as a bus driver and a postman in Coventry before joining Nursery Hill in 2008.
Amy completed a Contemporary Arts BA (Hons) Degree at The Manchester Metropolitan University in 2003 and made a career in Dance and Drama teaching on a freelance basis in the Midlands.
During that time Amy also worked at Battling Brook Primary School in Leicestershire as morning club manager, cover supervisor, SEN TA and attended Northampton University part time to achieve her Higher Level Teaching Assistant qualification.
After her 3 children were born, Amy had a career change and now works from home dealing in antiques, vintage and retro items. Amy's 3 daughters attend Nursery Hill Primary School and she became a parent governor in 2018.
